Re: [Killietalk] Fed Ex

I really enjoy this list, mostly for the information from some more seasoned fish heads than I. I feel like such a newbee and I've been at the fish thing since my early 20s and lets not talk about how many years ago that was... <wink>

The only thing that bugs me, is when people start 'bashing' one another or other groups. I've noticed MANY killi people started off as betta people and switched. I see the alure in that too, tanked fish as opposed to jarred fish, so much less work! Those of you that had/have bettas know EXACTLY what I'm talking about!

I'll keep lurking and once in a while I'll spout off. I was in a mood. Woman's perogative you know.... Thanks for the reply, it was much appreciated.

I think we all (or at leat most) are just trying to do the best we can for the creatures we keep and try to share across the country or the world and we could always better the way we do things. Never ending learning process is it?

Apparently, you haven't had any experience with betta shows for a long
time.It is NO longer common practice to send in bare styros. I have helped
with several shows over the last few years and there have been NO bare
styros. All were packaged correctly as far as styro liner w/cardboard box.
It is now stated that if fish are not properly packaged, they will be
repacked correctly and returned without being shown....

Kewl!

Thanks Pam, I'm delighted to hear of the change. My last involvement with Betta showing was 4-5 years ago. In that era we heard of (but I never saw) show entries in a #10 envelope wrapped in damp paper towels. :-) Tough little fishies by any standards!

You can not blame one or two stupid people along the way, be it a betta
person OR killi person (or any other fish type) and put them all in ONE
group.

Sure I can, if they don't use just a bit of common sense about shipping live stuff. ;-)

I've gotten shipments from one particular killi person in BARE styros just
in the last year.
SO.....

My comments were a deliberate sarcastic swipe at those KILLIFISH neanderthals who still think it is OK. [I didn't even think of our Betta friends who watch, here.] <Flame Shield> UP (against my killy buddies who ship in bare styros).

Perhaps someone should give everyone lessons on shipping fish in general, no
matter what group or groups they are in.

We do that as often as possible < http://www.sfbaka.net/shipit.htm>**, but recently it has been a fast-moving target. Not only 9/11 and fidgety bureaucrats or Fed Ex, but heat packs and breather bags have revolutionized the whole shipping scene. I, for one, find keeping up difficult. Heat packs scare me silly! Ergo, they must be a good thing. :-)

Just my two cents before bashing one or another group.....

Please forgive me, as I wasn't group bashing as much as trying to inject a bit of rationalty into the discussion. Believe me when I say I was a part of that Betta scene, hence I bashed me along with others. [I agree that my wording looked more like a group bash. Mea culpa! Sorry.]
