[Killietalk] Re: Collection codes

This has been a question within our local groups. We have members that have
brought back fish from overseas work assignments that they personally
collected and we have native North American fish collected that are not
officially listed anywhere. I know there are no official AKA guidelines on
how to name these collections, and I suspect there is no official AKA
listing of collection codes. It seems that Roger L.'s book only prints the
non-North American collection trips from the well known collectors. I
suspect that is because they are the only ones that report their trip to
him, not because of any prejudice.

Barry has taken on a tremendously huge task of policing these codes in the
Fish Registry of the website. Is this the closest thing we have to an
official list? If so, is it up to Barry to also assign new codes? He is
probably one of the best persons for both these tasks, but I imagine it to
be a huge undertaking. How is he to assure the validity of the codes? How
does he want new collections brought to his attention? How is he to keep
from being overwhelmed by this with all the rest he does for the AKA?

Sorry for all the questions and no answers. Are there some answers out
there I am missing?
