No official announcement has been made regarding the 2006 Convention. That
is something that is voted on at the BOT meeting at this year's Convention,
and will be announced there. All bids prior to that time will be discussed
and considered at that meeting. As is usual, people like to spread
information and evidently someone mentioned that a bid from Florida was sent
to the BOT, and some have translated that to mean that the BOT had made a
decision, which is not true. Unfortunately, fewer and fewer groups seem to
want to tackle the job of putting on a Convention, even with the financial
support the AKA provides. We recently upped our advance to $4000, decided
that the AKA will pay for the trophies and will provide a computer, software
and projector for use at the Convention, to make it less costly for the
local group or groups putting on a Convention. We will discuss at our
meeting this year any additional ways we can help or generate enthusiasm for
local groups to stage a Convention.
