Re: [Killietalk] Convention cost
Just to fuel the fire, the cost of $125 a room a night into which you can
stuff 2 or 3 people easily is not very high. With two per room that means
$125 for a room for the weekend. Sorry Ed, but this ain't a blue coller
PittsburgH any more and for less than $62 (that's the 2 person / room cost
for the convention) you could probably find a place around Pittsburgh but
might get disturbed by getting sheets changed hourly with guests departing
all day and night. Might not want to walk to McDonalds in the neighborhood
either. You won't get a Howard Johnsons, much less a room at the Pittsburgh
Hilton for less than the convention cost about anywhere in the eastern US
If you go to a place with less facilities, you get to pay for facilities
somewhere and still pay $100 a night for a decent room! The Greater
Pittsburgh Aquarium Society has been doing a weekend fish show for about 3
years now with a cost of about $3000 for the facility alone. With the AKA
funding the cost of the facilities it might be possible to find lower cost
rooms, but someone still has to cover the facilities if the Hotel does not
have them. If they do, someone has to pay for them.

<So I agree, its time for a host group to come along who can offer us a
low budget convention next year.
Indy, Pittsburg. Columbus, Cleveland (go Browns), just a good old down
home blue collar city where the hotels need business, the interstate is
nearby and the McDonalds is within walking distance. I wouldn't want
that every year, ( I'd still love a Honolulu convention) but the time is
right to go that way, if possible.>
