RE: [Killietalk] showing fish

It is a matter of "Why do we show fish?"

We are not trying to "breed better pigs" as a German friend once called it.:-)

From the club or association needs, it is to get more fish before both members and the public to promote trade, understanding, and appreciation for our hobby.

Individuals benefit from a chance to see, and even buy, fish that they otherwise could never maintain on their own. They also find a market for their fish that is friendlier and more personal than a dump at the LFS.

The chance to win a trophy is a nice way for the show-giving organization to haul out a few more entries. The KEY award is a very tangible recognition for one who has contributed much more than usual to our hobby in accomplishing the above goals.

I like Lee's bottom line, a lot, as aiming right at all these goals:

Bottom line -- anyone should enter and should do so with fish that
they can be proud of because they had some influence over their
 quality.
