Re: [Killietalk] Cool White vs. Warm White

I don't like the warm and cool bulbs because they don't give good colors. The daylight bulbs, sunstick, chroma 50, design 50 and others all are 5000K color which is equal to noon day sunlight or as close to it from a ~$6 4ft bulb. I compared a lot of specs in the manufacturers catalogs and generally they have the highest output and CRI(color rendering index) which means you see colors closer to what they really are. I found three different packages of 5000K bulbs from the same manufacturer at Lowes once that all had the same model bulb. Different price, different package, same bulb. I bought 6 of the cheaper ones.

Check what brand your local stores carry and look at their web site. You should be able to find a 5000k bulb with out any problem except in the small sizes, like 8 and 15 watt.

I have tried both and finally settled on Full Spectrum.......... they cost more but work very well for water sprint on the top of tanks along with frog bit and most other floating plants.

Home Depot sell Phillips........... sunlight or daylight forgot the name, I use 2 8' bulbs in a unit and they are 2 to 3 /1/2 ft above the tanks in the ceiling joists and the plants do very well...................
