You and I were told the same, Leo. Worked for me for years at low 
production, but very reliable. Then our mileage got improved... :-)

Chris Graseck actually ran tests. All used sliced apple as food to test 
4 diluted vinegars.

His reported results (from the killietalk archives) were:

I still think distilled white is worthless for this and as food. May be 
a decent glass cleaner additive (thanks Lorraine) and that's about all.
