[Killietalk] Re: Killietalk Digest, Vol 21, Issue 5 (Kordon Air Bags)

It has been some time since I've responded to the Digest, but today, I will...

Snip from Wright>>
<<A simple fix is to open the bag and squirt a little "Amquel" in with the
fish. Now, the higher pH tank water won't convert any toxins because the
"Amquel" (o/e) has sequestered all the ammonium.>>

Yes, I concur ONLY if not other chemical(s) (Amquel) have NOT been added before bagging. Yes, Yes, YES, killies should be shipped in a "clean colon state"... what does this mean... less amonia, less polution... This is not a new practice to us shippers, I use and like Kordon bags... They do work, but adding Amquel upon receipt of killies in air bags UPON RECEIPT is a good idea... We all know that water adds weights, but the key is to not overfeed killies before shipment.

Ship 2>>
<<That said, can someone explain to me (chemically) why adding Amquel to a
bag containing Bag Buddies is a bad practice?>>

Not to degrade from the discussion... I'm not a chemically inclined professional, so can only say, from the pet store industry, that, "why give a baby two diapers when only one can absorb the urine just as efficiantly?"
