I can testify that trying to float breather bags, filled to the top,
will quickly suffocate fish. In an early mishap with them, I received a
beautiful young breeding group of wild Rams in them. Floating killed
them all in just a few minutes. :-( We didn't know then, what we know
now, and Kordon's warnings were feeble (or not even present?) at that time.
Subsequently, I swore off of them when I saw the streams of water caused
by the spines of a small chicklet that had just been bagged. Newer bags
are much, much tougher than those early ones, so I finally bought some
to try again. [I might still be nervous about any grown fish like
chicklets and catfish that have sharp rigid fin rays. *J. floridae* is
the only killy known to have those.]
My current gripe, and it is a significant one, is that the already poor
transparency is greatly aggravated by unreadable, tiny blue printing all
over the bags. It makes seeing when a fish is in distress almost
impossible. Why won't they sell us small unprinted bags?
For aclimation, I have found a simple half-hitch knot in a vinyl airline
is even easier to adjust to a small drip than a valve. It also means I
don't have to go look for a valve. :-)
