Re: [Killietalk] Breather bag question

From: "David Ramsey" <djramsey at earthlink_net>
Now for the question. I have been told that floating this bag in the tank
will kill the fish because the bag can not breath. Is this true? What do I
tell the person I ship fish this way to as far as getting the fish changed
over to a regular tank?

David,
I acclimatize breather-bagged fishes in another container, like what Chip and Tony do, and water from their new home is slow-dripped, via an air-tubing line with a plastic ball valve (used in drip irrigation). Never tried floating, so I can't comment but don't forget the lid... some fishes can jump.

Tony,
You've probably shipped more fishes than I with breathers and would appreciate your opinions on double-bagging. Will gaseous exchange still occur through 2 layers of breather material?

I intend to ship out some juvenile Corydoras habrosus and C. hastatus (approx 1cm size) using breathers, but corys have the habit of hitting the surface for air.

Do I still 'flat-pack', as per your earlier attached picture, or do I leave ample air pocket?

Thanks and regards,
