Re: [Killietalk] USPS regulations

Hi,

Here is a cut and paste from Wright Huntley regarding shipping fish........... I just ship them without any label but Perishable handle with care......................

Tony

The USPS is, more-or-less, obligated to take your properly packaged fish, but often the local workers are not aware of the regs or even where to look for them.

Since no post office is without the regulation book that contains the cited paragraph, you can invite them to read the words themselves if they question you. "Small cold-blooded animals" is bureacratese to make the regulation clearly applicable to your fish, who really *are* small cold-blooded animals.

My Postmaster, in Modesto, suggested the following label should be on the package:
PERISHABLE
Small Cold-Blooded Animals
DMM CO22.3.2

Hello,

I just recieved some information from my local USPS office. They recieved notice that the airlines will no longer be accepting live animals for shipping. I said "fish are not classified as live animals"

We tried to find it in thier books but could not (section C seems to classify fish as cold blooded animals)

This just happened. Please inquire at your local post office (friendly people) and find out if you can still ship fish.

Does anyone remember the regulation citation for shipping fish.
