How are you using these "J" tubes? If it is a simple "J" then it will lose
its prime and go empty as soon as the siphon action has dropped the tank
level to the inlet of the tube or when flow is too slow to keep air from
entering the outlet. You must be adding an overflow box on the inlet of the
tube and somehow preventing air from entering the outlet? Seems like when
you add all these devices it might be easier to drill the tanks.

I tried several designs that did not lose their prime (various modifications
of Wright's design). However, over time they all were replaced by a bulkhead
for one reason or another. The smaller diameter siphons plugged up with Java
moss or peat moss or some other vegetative matter. Bottom line - a bulkhead has
never failed, although the foam plug slows down after a while if peat moss is
in the tank.
