RE: [Killietalk] tank size preferences

Good topic. Since we're thinking of moving this summer, I've been giving
that lots of thought.

In my fishroom and have a rack of 12 5-1/2's. A rack of 24 10's and my
newest rack has 20 2-1/2's. Which do I like best? Probably the 5 1/2's.
followed by the 2's and last are the tens. I've had that rack of 10's
for probably 25 years now and it's a waste of space. Except for the
Gularis and fry/juvenile rearing tanks, the fish don't need all that
room.

So in the new fishroom, I will use more 2's and 5's (for breeding) and
fewer 10's.

Ok Ed.... here's a topic that hasn't been overdone to death 200
times.... or at least i dont remember it being over done..

What size tank do ppl prefer for breeding purposes.... do you use a 5
gallon tank for a single pair or would a 2.5 be preferable. Now i know
some species need larger tanks because of their size. I wouldnt dream
of putting a pair of blue gularis into a 5 gallon tank except for maybe
a few hour get together with a female before seperating them.

Also as im starting to try to feel my way through soil spawners, do ppl
prefer using a single pair for breeding purposes or do you prefer a gang
method in a larger tank? I only ask these questions because although
ive kept killies for quite some time now, ive never really be very good
with peat spawners... Im trying to learn better methods of keeping and
breeding them. for some reason i have a black thumb when it comes to
Nothos, but can manage to keep SA annuals alive..

Thanks

John W
