Re: [Killietalk] gestation of F. gardneri

Had a funny thought about "why aren't more killies in LFS's and available at low prices." . Can you picture a commercial breeder or shop with a large labor force walking around with vials of eggs in their pockets?
Probably came to my head since it is pretty early in the AM and I'm still half asleep and silly.

Hello,

This happens some of the times. What you did not say is what the temperature is. if it is too cool they will take longer to hatch. When my Fp gardneri Jos plateau do this, I put them in a test tube and walk around with them in my pocket and they hatch.

Hi Folks,

This is kind of a beginner question..But I am stumped.

I am presently spawning F gardneri and after the first batch went well.. the subsequent eggs have kind of just reached a point in gestation and stopped.. They are at the ..what you guys call Eye's Up point but just won't hatch.. Sometimes I can sit and stare at the eggs and see the little fishies move..but then nothing..some of the eggs are approaching 28 days.. I thought gestation was 14 to 16 days..is this incorrect???

I am keeping the eggs in small cups and changing the water every other day with rain water.

Is this normal or is there something going on that i don't understand.

Thanks
Airwreck
