Hello all. I've had sporadic attacks of Hydra several times, Where they
came from I have no idea. Fluke tabs work great, but the water must be changed
several times once the hydra are eliminated. Fortunately, you can see them
shrivel up almost as soon as you put in a fluke tab. I have tried half the
recommended dosage with equally good results.

Hydra come in several ways, Fred, but far and away the most common is on
plants. The microscopic buds can easily travel on wet nets and in fish
water from your LFS or even a friend's tanks, too.
I don't get them often, but I tend to dry nets between use, which
discourages travel from one tank to the other, and I avoid letting in
any of the travel water from new fish and plants. If you are paranoid
about it, a quick plant rinse in epsom salt solution should take care of
them as well as most snail eggs, I think. [That's from long ago memory,
so treat with a pinch of scepticism. It won't get juvenile MTS. Feel for
those and remove manually.]
