Yes, Yes, Yes. I echo Edd's sentiments that there need be no give aways, but
there should be help in getting together with other enthusiasts and continued
publicity thereafter. It takes one really dedicated person (Edd is an example,
I am another) plus a couple other enthusiasts to get started. It will grow
over time. I was a co-organizer of the Delaware Valley Killifish Association in
1970. It grew until it was outmuscled by the Philadelphia Panchax Association
in the early 1980's which folded soon thereafter. It was reborn as the Pocono
Killifish Group by Dave Koran and reorganized, after he moved to Cincinnati in
1985, as the Keystone Killy Group. I have arranged the meeting place and sent
out the meeting notices for the entire 35 years (except for the one year as
Philadelphia Panchax Association). I have had help only with a treasurer, since
I cannot balance a check book. So two people is minimum and then you need
someone to come to the meetings. The AKA does not need to be involved, but it
sure could be more help with publicity. As a minimum, the Beginners Committee
should refer new members to the local affiliate. They did for a while.
