Yes, however, the recognition and support after recognition are no substitute
for a couple (it does take more than one). These are my views on the
affiliate club program as it is and also how it should be.
1. There should be a minimal requirement to achieve recognized affiliate
status. Right now the requirements are
"In order to qualify as an affiliate, the club must have a minimum of six
members, in good standing, of the AKA and those six shall constitute at least 50%
of the membership of the club, i.e., 50% of the club members must be members
of the AKA."
I believe this should be reduced to three members of the AKA minimum and not
percentage of total required.
2. There should be a published current list of all affiliate clubs and
contact information in the BNL, Roster and website. This is currently practiced in
theory, but not always updated.
3. There should be tangible support for the affiliate clubs, Currently the
only support, beyond publicity as mentioned in 2., is the supplying of
additional copy of BNL and JAKA to each club. Previously there had been other rewards,
for example, a free membership for a newbie to any club meeting the annual
reporting requirements - see 4. there is also supposedly a 10% discount for
orders of $50 or more, but I have not received it.
4. There should be an annual report of activities and membership to the
Affiliate Club Committee Chairman. This is the current rule but not the practice.
5. The Charter of the Affiliate Club Program exists in the BOT Procedural
Manual. I have a copy, but has anyone else seen it? It should be published
annually.
6. Any group of two or more people can start a club. The official affiliation
is only a slight advantage, at present.
As you can see this hits one of my hot buttons.
