I think Ken, that this debate isn't a debate. That's why everyone's
struggling to figure out what it is. Yes, new imports will push older
populations out.
Everyone with a fishroom has been there. And yes, certain new and rare
species do have trading card appeal.
I think the only question is whether, in focusing solely on
maintenance, learning is getting shunted aside in your analysis. Every
new importation brings a potential for us to learn with it, especially
if it has accurate distribution information. Clearly, the scientists on
the list will learn at a different level than a curious amateur like
myself, but the desire to learn at whatever level is as much a motor to
the AKA as conservation.
And yes, it's possible my entire posting is entirely off topic for the
thread, as this has been a rough thread to comprehend. I tried my best
to figure out what was behind all the quotation marks and <> punctuation...
