There are also behavioral mechanisms (often very subtle) that are 
species-specific that allow females and males of the same species to recognize each 
other. It may be how the male holds his caudal, or a certain pattern in his mating 
dance....in any case, it seems to work very well! (This is from an old biology 
major, so no flames please!)  Carolyn (in snowy Ohio where the deep freeze 
seems to be lifting, at least temporarily)
