"I have been in the trade & I hate this rip off mentality towards breeders.
Of course it's cheaper to import yourself from the far east or Czech but
this mark up is ridiculous & shows that retail outlet to be a gross
profiteerer far removed from the aquarists he/she is selling to."
I guess that's why you see all those retailers running their wheel barrows of money right to the bank. Gee if I could just 1000 fish at 5.99, I might cover my over-head. I wouldn't mind getting charged a reasonable price/pair of fish so I could sell them at a reasonable price, but I ask you, what should a lfs sell a pair of half-ass pair of chocolate australes from a killi breeder when your stiffed paying 6$ a pair for? Is the breeder doing this to make money? If so, the question of unbelievable profit margin can be reversed toward the breeder. Perhaps I'm just sensitive toward this subject, but it always ticks me off when folks forget what it can cost to run a retail business and how so many good ones close their door just trying to compete with the big "Box" chains. Ya, 5.99 from a .59 cent fish is wrong for the most part, but perhaps that's all the lfs has to make a profit.
Just some ranting form one of the evil LFS's
