[Killietalk] News module and convention news

Hi everyone:

This is to let you know that I have just added a News module to the AKA site, under Member Services. It is my intent to migrate as much of the site content as possible to this area, eventually probably the whole site (in which case I won't refer to it as Member Services any more). Anyway, this is another step in that direction.

I have created a topic area for Convention 2005, where the organizers can post informtion as it becomes available. The first information is already there. Only the convention organizers can post to this area.

I have also created a topic area for club news. All AKA members can post to this topic area. I would like to see clubs use this feature actively. Such new information makes the whole site more dynamic and attracts return visitors.

The form for posting news items includes an editor of sorts. Personally I find it a bit unintuitive, but I am expecting an update to this module by the end of the month. It will include a much better editor. In the meantime you can just type in your news. If you want to bold or italicize a word, for example, using the current editor, you type that word into the little text area at the top, click bold (say), then Add. That will place the tagged word or words in the text at the end of what is already there. Therefore, you need to do that at the point that you are ready to enter that bolded word. (The new editor will allow you to highlight a word in the already entered text, then click on bold, size, color, or what have you. It will also show right in the text area according to the attributes you enter. Look forward to it).

Anyway, take a look at this new feature and give me feedback. I encourage clubs to post news, and please let me know if there are other topic areas you'd like to see included.
