Re: [Killietalk] A Quick Linear Pump Question

Based on my experience, that is not necessary. I used regular 90 degree elbows in the corners of my 1.5" manifold and there is no noise problem. The only thing you hear in my fish room is the bubbles from the tanks.

My 80 watt pump has a 5/8 inch outlet. I choke it down right away to a 1/2 in CPVC tubing and spread it around the room. Some take the outlet to 1 inch tubing/pipe and it really works better. Really shouldn't choke it down until it gets close to the tank valves and tanks.

I depend on the pressure and don't use much volume. I tried a 100 watt to start with but it was way too much volume/pressure for my system. I have three 30 's on my line but most are 5's. and 10's. and I run the hatchers as well as a 55 gallon drum with the air pressure.

If you are in the planning stages, and are purchasing the 80 watt, set up the plumbing around the room with 1 inch tubing and keep the joints well sealed. The pressure will blow things apart. Choke down the lines as close to the tanks as possible. You can stretch out the life of the pump with less work.

Charles is right. Larger diameter is good, particularly as flow volume increases.

My next system will bypass the plumbing-type pipes, and go to conduit, for the larger diameter and gradual bends at 90 degreee corners means that plastic conduit is quieter and more efficient than the abrupt corners with water pipes. It may actually be cheaper and lighter. IDK.
