Lee. At 4degrees C , I suspect they were active and healthy but not eating. I my limited experience I note that just like goldfish, my killies do not eat when the temp falls below 50 degrees F. I have no SA killies, but am speaking about NA killies. Joe Scanlan

Which cold water killifish are you keeping and at what temperature? Many cold
water tolerant fish are not active unless warmer - they are cold blooded and
their metabolism is slowed at low temperatures - they are essentially dormant.
Many killies are not tolerant of higher temperatures, because they need more
oxygen. Perhaps you should consider somewhat higher temperatures but with
increased aeration or higher surface area tanks. I collected many Austrolebias
this past July in Uruguay in water that measured 4 degrees C. These fish were
active and healthy.
