[Killietalk] Cold water killies
Howdy,
Every time I deal with cold water killies, and keep them at the suggested
cold temperature, I have all sort of problems. Fish not eating, fish not
laying eggs, fish getting disease that I normaly see when a warm water fish
lives in temperatures below what they should be (e.g. bettas at 65F will get
dropsy unless ick/velvet kills them first).
I am usually about 4-5F above literature values on pretty much all species
in order for them to seem happy, eat well, and lay eggs.
I have used all sorts of thermometers, sometimes 10 of them in one small
tank. So I believe the reading I am getting is pretty accurate. Just the
values I need to use are consistantly higher.
Any suggestion on where this might come from ?
take care,
