Re: [Killietalk] Infertile Egg Fungus... timeline

Mark,

I never bother checking Notho eggs for infertility and fungusing. I do check the peat to make sure that it has eggs in it, and rarely do I see white eggs. Any infertile eggs presumably fungus and dissolve while in the peat in the tank. If a few more die in the dried peat, I don't think it's a problem because the eggs are separated and so shouldn't contaminate one another.

Lee,

Thanks for your input. I had no idea they would change so fast, as normally
I collect and put them away for a few weeks before I check them.

Thanks again, and Happy New Year.

In my experience, infertile eggs will turn cloudy or disintegrate within a
day after collecting. Fungus comes later. A clear egg after a day or so
indicates a viable egg.
