Lee, are you sure they produce hydrogen gas? My understanding is that
the iron in the pouch oxidizes on exposure to atmospheric oxygen, which
is exothermic. I don't think they extract oxygen from water. If that was
the case, they would heat up before opening the pouch and exposing to
oxygen. They do consume oxygen, which I think is a good reason not to
use completely sealed containers, especially if shipping in breather bags.
