I've seen this done too sloppily, too often. Personal opinion: I don't
think there's any substitute for a REAL (and thick) Styrofoam box when
the safety and lives of valuable killifish are concerned.
Edd, You know how deeply it pains me to agree with your personal
opinions, but this one is dear to me, so I'll make the exception. ;-)
Real styros, with solid corners and overlapping lids are essential,
IMHO, if you want them to survive.

Amen. Failure to air-tight tape both inside and outside of all corners
is a certain way to reduce insulation, maybe as much as by 90%. Jostling
and vibration in transit and handling can pump rather large amounts of
air in and out of boxes with poorly fabricated insulation. Convection
can move air from the tape to the other side if the fitting isn't
virtually air tight (and it never is), or double taped.
If you ever used a poorly-designed sleeping bag in snow country, you
know exactly what I mean. Nothing like a leaky zipper or seam to
overwhelm the finest goose down.
Use a thick medical styro, inside a fitted cardboard box, for long
distance or out-of-season shipping. Your vet or local hospital are
delighted to recycle them.
