Re: [Killietalk] Best Yarn for mops?

Hello Kenneth,

The BEST yarn for mops is soft Nylon knitting yarn. One can boil it many-many times! These days, however, I can not find it, because acrylic yarn took over the US market. If anybody knows where one can get 100% soft Nylon Yarn -- I would like to hear about it!

Some years ago, Jerry Kasey recommended a British yarn, 55% DuPont Nylon, 45% Acrylic, that is almost as good as 100% Nylon I used in the past. It is called "Wendy Peter Pan Toddler Aran" made in England by Thomas B. Ramsden & Co, Guiseley, West Yorkshire. I bought it at

Needle on the Square
3554 Electric Road
Roanoke, VA 24018
Ph: 540-774-8797

You have to buy a bag of 10 skeins. In 2000 the price was $35. This yarn serves me well. I have heard, that there is a similar yarn that contains 65% Nylon. Whether it is better, I don't know.

However, if this US store carries it, other, local, stores might carry it too.

Best,

George

P.S. I have to agree with Lee -- the 1968 edition of "Scheel's Rivulins of the Old World" is absolutely the best book to use!

This question may seem dumb on the surface, but I've been using a 100%
acrylic yarn that "might" last 3-4 trips into the microwave or boiling
pot, then "kaput"...basically it gets pretty darn frizzy (pulling eggs
is a pain!)..is this the normal course of events or is there a better
yarn out there? (I know not to use wool)... (Oh and naturally after
every "boil" I always find "hard boiled" eggs...arghhh)..any rec's
appreciated

2nd question..does the color make any dang difference? I'm thinking of
switching from green to black (it's a "over 40" thing <smile>)...in
other words what color will give me the most contrast (seems cheaper to
ask than to buy asst yarns)

BTW, I already figured out that the book you use makes a difference:
Sydney Sheldon books works better than Stephen King's,(OK, I'm reaching,
but my luck has got to change <smile>) The way I'm going, I might resort
to the Karma Sutra next, still vacillating on using the bible tho...

Oh, one more thing...anyone ever have any "critters" survive in the
peat?..I just wet some yesterday only to discover white worms still
alive after 3 months..I'm wondering if they ate any eggs or if the bugs
et are harmful..if so, how can you deal with em? (even though the peat
dish is set back from the "feeding corner", I still find moss, worms,
et)
