RE: [Killietalk] Best Yarn for mops?

I prefer 100 % Acrylic yarn Forrest green in color. For floats 1" cubes of
Styrofoam. Boil three times. If the yarn gets kinky great it gives the eggs
more places to hide. I find two to three times more eggs in the kinky mops
if they are left in a tank for more than a day. Schell's book is nice but I
prefer to use a larger book like the fascination of breeding Aquarium
fishes, I get longer mop strands with it.

I have found that rinsing the mops in 180 degree running water once every
two weeks tends to give me more fertile eggs.

This question may seem dumb on the surface, but I've been using a 100%
acrylic yarn that "might" last 3-4 trips into the microwave or boiling
pot, then "kaput"...basically it gets pretty darn frizzy (pulling eggs
is a pain!)..is this the normal course of events or is there a better
yarn out there? (I know not to use wool)... (Oh and naturally after
every "boil" I always find "hard boiled" eggs...arghhh)..any rec's
appreciated

I notice that my pupfish absolutely love laying eggs in a "frizzy" mop
right
below and in the tightest part of the knot. I agree its a pain to pull
eggs
from the frizzy mop but an option is rotating mops and just moving the mop
to a hatching container. Just a thought.
