I would guess that aquarium carbon would be a good
base for biological filtration. Back when I used
carbon, I sure hope it assumed that role after a week
or two. ;)

My question is, if RO water was added while topping
off  or just a considerable percentage (20-45%) of the
water was changed, would some of the "stuff" adsorbed
by the carbon be released back into the water column?
