Re: [Killietalk] Re:Water
Without a load of technical blurb I am really lucky where I live in the
midland region of the UK. Most killies live well (including wild imports) in
my tapwater. This is absolutely perfect for guppies in every respect
straight from the tap.
Perhaps plants hold the key to water parameters. I have a few good indicator
sp.:
Tropical Myriophyllum - Likes hard water & disolves in soft water
conditions. The same goes for Riccia.
Ceratopteris - Likes acid water & shouldn't grow in harder/alkaline water
but in my tanks you cannot kill it.
Java fern does really well in my water.
Duckweed - I'm convinved this bane seeds itself in open water. I am battling
it at the moment along with snails. Both are useful in a controlled
environment.
I think these plants are the key to keeping good water quality.
My tapwater is a happy medium which is used to benefit my fishkeeping
criteria.
Perhaps it is best to look at your tapwater & sort out the best fish suited
to it.
