I'm sure Brian will make a comment here, so I don't really want to say too
much, but there is some effect of how aerobic or anaerobic your peat is when
you first dry it.

Brian presented some data at the convention and I have been experimenting,
mainly out of my strong tendency toward procrastination. Being lazy about
collecting your peat appears to widen your hatch window. I have started to
collect once every 6 weeks on species that I am not trying to put out in any
quantity and indeed I am seeing such results. Last week I got some foerschi
fry out of a bag of peat that was 10 months old. This peat was collected
after I had been down recovering from knee replacement surgery last December
and had been in the tank for about 8 weeks.
