RE: [Killietalk] Jamaican Killiefish
Lloyd,
There was a thread about C. pengelleyi a week of so ago. There was also
another earlier this year. It is a beautiful pupfish which is easy to
care for, for some people, and impossible for others. My experience
with them is that they do best when their water is changed often (very
often). I believe that all of the C. pengelleyi in the hobby at this
time are decedents of the Webber 82 collection. (If you can trace the
fish back to Dan Katz then they are Webber 82. They are available from
time to time and if you ask around you can probably find some. They
come from warm hard water but hardness does not seem to be of major
importance in their husbandry. They will eat just about anything but
should have a vegetable component in their diet. They are egg
injectors. I used open cell foam (the kind that is sold as filter
media) as an egg laying site for mine, and it seemed to work well. Most
people find that the fry do not survive in the tank with the adults. I
have seen them survive in a tank that was absolutely packed with java
moss. They tend to lay more eggs at warmer temps.
Hope this helps,
Chris

Does anyone have any information on the The Jamaican Killifish
Cubanichthys
pengelleyi?
There is an aquatic plant business, Florida Driftwood, that has a photo
on
its web site.
I believe the link is http://www.floridadriftwood.com/jam_killie.htm.
