Re: [Killietalk] New collections was N. steinforti

I guess what you are saying is that unless it is a fish that is not in the hobby for some reason or another, or it is a fish that has been hard to keep going in the hobby there is little chance of seeing it collected from the wild. I certainly can understand why that is based on what you have said. I am still not happy about it though. I have made it my goal to work with some of the established species we presently have, no matter how plentiful they are. I went thru that period of always looking for new species and never really keeping a good population of any. Decided that was not for me so I have found my little nich in the hobby. There are many Gardneri species and most are very beautiful. Some are easy to get to spawn and others are not. This in itself creates sufficient challenges for me. I hope
that all of the new species found or reintroduced are cherished by those who get them and that every effort is made to keep them in the hobby.

I for one would gladly pay the higher costs due to collecting and shipping expenses.. It would be a rare oppotunity to be able to obtain these supposedly common killies which in this situation would be anything but common. I suppose there is not much hope in this happening but I will remain ever watchful for the opportunity if it should ever happen.

Exactly you and a few others would, but how about the 150 to 200 pairs that would compose a minimum order. ????

It is a good time, we are seeing more and more wild killies, and with a little political luck areas in West African may open up again to commercial exports, and we will see some new imports of old fish. Look how many new imports of fish like Aphy.. cognatum, A. christyi, A splendopleure, A. bivittatum, A poliaki, Procatopus, similis, P nototaenia, Epiplatys annulatus, E. singa, E.sexfasciatus have appeared in the last four years................... It is a good time to be in the hobby.
