Scheel did many many hybrid experiments. If you look into rivulins of the
old world (both of them) you will see some reports (even australe x
gardneri)
Many of the chromos are sterile even when crossed to each other. As I
recall from an old talk on fishes of Gabon there are 2 different locations
of the same species (cyanostictum) that are not even fertile within the
species. I remember that Mokoukou was one but cannot remember the other.
Different cryptic species? As I recall they even had different chromosome
counts.
