[Killietalk] Brine shrimp hatching problem
I have been hatching brine shrimp for at least 35 years and have not run into
this problem before. At least, not very often. This past week or two I have
had an airline become clogged with precipitated salts after less then 24 hours
bubbling. I ream out the 1/8 inch rigid plastic tubing every day when starting
a new hatch. This has almost always, in previous times, prevented this
problem, but in the last week or two I have had about half of my hatches aborted
because of a clogged airline. I know it is impossible to diagnose what has
changed, but is there a sure remedy? Does anyone use larger (3/16 inch) tubing? Is
temperature a factor? Is tap water hardness a factor? Would RO water (with
salt, obviously) be advised?
