[Killietalk] N. virgatus recollected
I just returned from Al Fula, Sudan and collected a few specimens of N.
virgatus. This collecting trip was very difficult. An enormous effort was
made to collect this fish. Just slogging through the mud (never been in mud
like this) in this heat was an incredible strain not to mention being
relentlessly hasseled by the Sudaneese police (American policy is not very
popular here right now).
Breeding fish here is very difficult (Oh how I wish I had my fishroom set up
now) but I will try my best to get eggs. I have promised several of you eggs
as I collect them and I am hoping that through these expereinced breeders, this
fish can be enjoyed by more hobbyists in the AKA. No promises but I will try.
I am again reminded of the great value the AKA has in helping to distribute
fish that are both difficult and expensive to obtain in the wild.
