I don't think so. According to Aquaticfoods.com they are raised with
constantly cold running water and on a special "pellet food". I've
managed to keep them alive for at least a few months as long as I
don't overstock. Aquatic worms reproduce also by fragmenting, and
bitten in half worms will regenerate.
