Thanks Joel. I can see Tyrone's discomfort about my using the current
election process in the US as an example to make my point about the
stakes involved, and his point is well taken. It is a highly charged
example.
Part of my point was supposed to be that if I want to vote nationally, I
can find information on the candidates, their platforms and their
records in hundreds of places, but club elections being what they are,
the election process for the BOT taught me next to nothing about the
individuals who were stepping up and offering their time to help the
club flourish. I have a hard time defining the issues when I look at the
AKA - I see a need for a few adjustments, but are those adjustments as
big as "issues"? I don't see it. I'm glad people stepped up, and I thank
them all because I get so much out of my membership and they make that
possible. I didn't vote for any of them because I couldn't define
criteria for choosing one over the other. The ones I know I respect
greatly, and the ones I don't, well maybe I just don't know them well
enough to appreciate what they'd bring... I couldn't bring myself to
vote on "name recognition". I'm willing to bet a lot of members felt the
same.
I would never "force" anyone to vote in any election. But if I were king
of the world you'd ALL have Aphyosemions...
