Re: [Killietalk] Cool Down!

Why don't people vote in the BOT election? One reason could be that the
members are happy with the way things are going. Believe it or not the vast
majority of people who belong to this organization do so because we like
killifish. They could care less who is running the show. Let's face it. this
organization doesn't effect us the same as the presidential election. And
any comparison of the two is ludicrous. Most people are in the HOBBY for
relaxation believe it or not. It is a way to get away from the daily
b--ls--t we all face everyday. We like the challenge of acquiring new fish
and having them breed for us. And in turn making them available to others.
It is exciting as well as educational. We get to meet new people who have
the same interest that we do. Where else can you have a group of people from
all walks of life actually sit down and discuss a topic of interest without
worrying about what the other guy does for a living or where they may live.
And we all should fell lucky that there are those who take MORE time to be
sure this organization stays running for us. Over the years I have known
people with extensive educational backgrounds in science that are very
knowledgeable about tropical fish. On the other hand I have known people who
are car mechanics, tool and die makers, salespeople, people on disability
and yes even housewives that have as much knowledge, and sometimes more than
a highly educated individual. We all get to contribute. That is what has
always struck me about fish people. We can get together and talk about the
same interest without being judgmental.

I didn't vote in the BOT election because I just re-joined after a few
years. I did vote in the past, and I will vote next year. I shutter to think
of those that may be thinking about joining the AKA, that are reading this
and thinking twice about joining. Especially the younger hobbyists. I wrote
a few weeks ago about how you will always have those people who are never
satisfied. They always have to stir the pot. And don't get me wrong, I
believe that everyone has a right to ask questions. If you don't have people
asking questions, you never discover new ways of doing things. But let's
face it, some of the questions that started this whole mess WERE of a
sarcastic nature. Sarcasms will always get you a defensive answer and
rightfully so. Bantering back and forth in killitalk is not going to get any
of us anywhere other than in a deeper hole. If you want more results, I
suggest you get yourself more involved and make the results happen. Ask to
be on the election committee for next year. Better yet, offer to form a
committee to compile the information you want. If you don't want to do this,
then realize we can't take you serious. You compile the results you want and
make them available. If you only want to bitch and complain about it and do
nothing, then leave... There are those of us that are sick and tired of
the crap. Let's get back to talking about the little fish.
