[Killietalk] Re: Cool Down

Bravo, Lee ! I'm glad to see someone else has ferreted out the reason for all of the discontent within the club. I have brought this up several times in the past on this list and have always been shot down and criticized in replies through private E-Mails although never in an open reply on the list.. I did like what you were doing during your term as the Chairman and hoped it was going to set an example for those who followed. Instead, we have regressed...

While the Business News Letter (BNL) is a good place to start, the ideal is the Web Site or perhaps a BOT status E-Mail to all members who have Internet access. I realize this would penalize those who don't have a computer or E-Mail access but do we really know how many this would disadvantage ? Has anyone analyzed the roster to determine how many members we could not reach by some electronic means... This is a great issue for the BOT to address this year and I anticipate hearing of some progress in the BNL, Web site or at the open BOT meeting at the end of May.

I ran for the BOT this year and since I now (through Killitalk) have discovered I did not get elected I am a little sad but do not regret the try... I think I have a lot to return to the AKA for the help it has been through the years... But I still think it would be easier to elicit votes and ask for support if I could address myself to the issues and take a stand on them.. Without that knowledge its a crap shoot and all anyone can say is "If elected I will address the problems the AKA faces during the coming year(s)"... All in all, pretty lame since we don't know the issues..

As an afterthought on the financial status of the AKA and the dissemination of this info to be done at the open BOT meeting, doesn't this disadvantage those of us unable to attend the annual get together ?

In retrospect, every year or so, about this time, AKA Killietalk members get
bored and start this same discussion. You know what? It will pass and be
forgotten. The AKA is a very stable organization for the same reasons the US
government is normally stable. There are checks and balances and inertia built into
the rules that govern the organization. Now that is both a stabilizing
influence but also a hindrance to change. That can be frustrating when an apparently
urgent need arises. But, in the long run, it is better to be safe than sorry.
Now, as I see it, there is one real issue here. That is full and rapid
information disclosure. The membership is entitled to know more about the club (it is
just a hobby club). Publishing the BOT business and financial records and the
election results in a more timely and regular manner is certainly a desirable
state. Doing it here on Killietalk is not the place for that since this is
not for AKA members alone. Doing it on the webpages Members Only section is OK,
but misses some members that do not have easy and regular Internet access. The
only "official" way is in the Business News Letter, but this should be
supplemented by the Members Only section of the Web Pages, just like Fish and egg
Listings can be supplemented. Now if you accept my premise that the BNL (with
web supplementation) is the way to go, then the remaining issue is the
timeliness and completeness of the reports. I feel strongly that the BOT can and should
improve their dissemination of information to the members. I certainly tried
to do that when I was Chairman.
