[Killietalk] RE: Killietalk Digest, Vol 15, Issue 63

>No one has the right to force you to vote, especially someone who is
not a citizen of your country. Regardless of my feeling towards
American politics I do not have the right to tell you who to vote for
or even to vote at all and nor does Gary. His remark was totaly
irresponsible. If you do not want to vote that is your business and
certainly has nothing to do with this forum.

Tyrone-

I would not presume to speak for Gary, but I didn't read his comments as an attempt to "force" anyone to vote. He simply expressed his personal belief that it is irresponsible not to vote in a national election when there is so much at stake, as opposed to the relatively small stakes involved in the election of the BOT members of a small hobbyist organization. Why did this comment seem to offend you? Trust me, nobody is trying to take away your right NOT to vote. The powers that be like apathy just fine; it is much more comfortable (and profitable) for them. It is certainly not "irresponsible" to encourage people to vote.

I just hope Gary isn't discouraged from posting as a result of these type of comments. I personally think that Gary does just as much to encourage killie-keeping through his column in TFH as anybody else in this organization. It is a direct result of reading his killie profiles in TFH that I decided to try killies for the first time, and I am one of those "under 30" members who are apparently in short supply.

Just my opinion,

Joel
