Dennis,
What are valid references when requesting to add new items? I know species/genus must follow KMI4. But what about population/locations? Is the West African Site a valid reference? Other than Roger's book, what are some other good references to check? One more question: I always learned Fp. gardneri Misaje was a population of the nigerianus subspecies, is this incorrect? The registry has it listed as gardneri gardneri, which typically (unless I'm mistaken) has no marginal bands on the anal fin. All the misaje I've seen have a yellow marginal band and a red sub-marginal band.
TIA

I don't think a reference is required, but if you know one, that will help Barry check the accuracy. Barry went to a lot of work to "clean up" the list, but we know it's not perfect as a reference (can it ever be?). My hope is to get it as accurate as the F&EL, since that's the standard members will comapre it too.

We don't want to add just any name someone comes up with, but names that are generally accepted in the hobby will be added as we come across them. If you know of valid names that are missing, even if you don't have the fish, please use either the form on the site or an email to Barry to list them.

A reference is indeed requested so that I can be reasonably sure that the location name requested is valid. There have been so many corrupted names in the hobby that I would like to be able to check them. There are still many location names to enter in the Killie Registry, and I will get to them when I find time. Right now I'm going through a particularly busy period so it will take a few weeks. Valid references would include Roger's booklet, Tim Addis's site (he has researched it carefully) or a reference in a publication from the collectors. For Nothos Brian Watters compilation that is available on the AKA site is a very dependable source. Again, that material has been carefully checked. There may be errors in what I compiled. If you find one, please let me know.

The Killie Registry and the new Member Services area in which it is found are the result of some months of work by Dennis and I and address "complaints" and requests from the membership for certain online services. It is something of a disappointment to see that they do not get used. People clamored for an online listing service but when introduced the registry and its predecessor, the Classifieds, have been very lightly used. Please consider listing your holdings in the registry. With participation it could become a very valuable resource for the SMC to be able to track the status of fish in the hobby, as well as providing a mechanism to distribute your fish (should you wish to do so).
