Re: [Killietalk] Re: Lampeye Eggs WITH nimbaensis update

While we are discussing lampeyes, I'd like to follow up on the Rhexipanchax nimbaensis thread of a few weeks back. I tried trios in three tanks - one heated to 76f with a good flow, plants and gravel, another small unheated (70f) tank with an undergravel and one mop, and one unheated bare bottomed tank with 2 mops. Results as of this week with the trios moved back together to their own planted 15 gallon are fry in both tanks with gravel, but none in the bare glass tank with mops (and no eggs to be found in the mops).
Yes, this contradicts one poster finding eggs high in the mops, so it is not the recipe. But it is a recipe that works, if mops don't work for you.
It's worth trying what we can with a fish like this - the recent imports are deep-keeled lampeye with blue on the head and orange tinged fins - very nice and active. I hope that between us all, we can keep it around the hobby.

fry tank. This keeps me from losing missed eggs and puts the collected eggs in an oxygenated stream of water while they hatch. I leave the mop in the fry tank for 2 weeks. Most of the fry seem to hatch in about ten

Thanks for the writeup... We have had problems with *Aplocheilichthys normani* eating eggs (we think so at least), so we actually remove the our eggs. As you note we have also found the level of oxygen to be of extreme importance in reducing the number of eggs that fungus. We have had success moving the eggs to small, open tupperware containiers with a _little_ water (1/4" or less) to increase oxygen levels - deeper water levels result in fungus problems for us at least.
