[Killietalk] Good Ole griping

Brian,
I'm not sure if I got the answer to my questions, or maybe I didn't ask
them quite right. But you mentioned the N&R "Committee" was re-started by
"US" here in NWKillies, am I to take that
as the NWKillies "IS" the N&R Committee, and that was kind of my original
question. So if I were apart of NWKillies then would I automatically be part
of the N&R Committee and could trade with others within.
I don't currently belong to the AKA, but last month I went to a local
meeting in Wis., I believe
WAKO, which alot said pretty much described the hobby or themselves or both.
I had a real nice
time, and the people were great.
But, after seeing the AKA newsletter (BNL I think), and JAKA, I'm
having trouble finding any
really good reason. This brought up the N&R species which is how this came
to be.
IF, the N&R Committee is no more than the AKA members selling their
fish, then my concern
right away was it was sounding like a "Good Ole' Boy Network". And in any
case, why have a
committee when the N&R seem to be showing up on the Internet or at shows ?

This in turn prompted Al to write:

Every thing in the AKA is in the good ole boy, so pay your dues and work your backside off for free for 20 - 40 years and maybe you can become part of it. After you have been around long enough maybe you will turn it into the Good Ole Person Network .

Hmm... "Everything is good ole boy" - like this public mailing list anyone can join, like JAKA, which I guess isn't very good, or the BNL, which lists all those nasty sanctioned shows where you can obtain fish from that naughty N&RS who are supplying fish to those wicked affiliate clubs who are keeping it all for themselves (hence the public shows, right?)

I mean, it's way more good ole boy than those other noble, altruistic, philanthropic organizations like the ACA or IFGA or ALA or...
(sarcasm mode OFF)

AKA isn't perfect. Nothing is. What NWK is doing for distributing fish is, in my not so humble opinion, very welcome - it's not like we've seen a glut of N&RS fish from the AKA in the last few years. It's not like the distribution of N&RS fish has ever been 100% applauded by the membership. NWK doing it's 'breeders program' sounds like a great idea - this way the work doesn't fall on just one person and a supply of fish is ensured...

Let's all take a deep breath and not start flaming. Wait. Maybe I'm too late for that. Oh well.

Matt, in the beautiful PNW where his fishroom is too cold even in August.
