RE: Affiliates (was Re: [Killietalk] RE: Importations)
I ask, why is this necessary when the N&RSC is doing the importations
for the AKA and will be making the results available to ALL members,
fairly through the BNL and online listing? Why complicate matters when
the system exists to accomplish what we want accomplished?

I'm new to all this, and maybe this is a crazy idea,
but what do you think?
For hobbiests that don't have an affiliate club in
their area, the AKA could sponsor regional "virtual"
clubs through email and/or snail mail & phone. Each
virtual club could be paired with similarly sized
affiliate club as a "sister" club.
Then, if the AKA is helping to centralize the
permitting fees for importing new and rare species and
assisting with fish box exchanges to the affiliate
clubs, the affiliate clubs would then notify the
members of their virtual sister club of new
availablity and broaden the distribution out to them.
(Of course, with all that shipping there would be
delays to let the fish recover, but that's not a bad
thing.)
Since the local affiliates benefit so much from
obtaining cheap fish through box swaps, perhaps they
would be willing to help subsidize the shipping to
their virtual sister members so that they can reap the
benefits of reduced costs as well as the increased
availability of a broader variety of species.
Does this sound workable, or am I dreaming?
