[Killietalk] N & R
That function was one of the new features of the on-line classifieds at
aka.org, as I recall. I also suspect that Brian Perkins hasn't had
enough spare time and energy to activate it and put up a N&R list there.
Basically, he has to do *all* the work, as I understand the current
structure of the N&R Committee. Searching, buying, importing,
acclimating, maintaining, communicating, selecting, bagging, shipping,
preparing reports and keeping records are too much for one volunteer,
IMHO. [Of course, my opinion can stink as bad as anyone's!]
All,
This is why I said from the outset that to do this long term I had to be
careful about burn-out. So far, I'm having fun! One strategy has been
for me to list only when there are quality fish available to list, and
not feel pressured to list just to let people know I'm still active. I
am still pursuing the truly weird and the truly Rare fish out there. I
have established some good contacts in Canada, Europe, S. America and
Africa, and am currently working on a source for wild caught South Asian
fishes; primarily from India. Changes and expansion of the fishroom will
start this Fall too, so that I can better house and care for the animals
brought here. I am still slowly setting up a network of committed
individuals, my "contract breeders", who have agreed to raise up small
quantities of fish for offer through this committee. These people have
decided that it is important to them that the N & R committee, and by
extension the AKA & it's membership benefit from their small
contributions. So, I have been working quietly this Summer getting
ready for a fall push that will involve three separate waves of fish
offerings, if all goes as planned. I am working up a small offering for
next months BNL (and Online) and there will be a couple of more listings
as we get into the Fall. These will be a mix of fish and egg offerings
and will include representatives of all Killie-types. On top of all of
this, I am a custom home builder that runs his own business from a home
office & a Father with two young boys aged 8 and 5. This is my busy
season and so if I don't respond immediately, hang in there, and I will
get back you. It's just that my worklife/family set the agenda all
Summer. Thanks in advance for your patience.
Let me reiterate: I encourage you to contact me directly if you have any
interest in joining the N & R contract breeder program, or at least
finding out more about it.
Cheers,
BP
