Re: [Killietalk] Fundulus diaphanus (Banded Killifish)

The picture listed below is the type of water where I collected the fish. It's silty and muddy and less than 6" deep.. right at the waters edge. The fish hung out around that log while the rest of the shore there was mostly dace and chub.

The ducks were rather perturbed that I was paying more attention to the fish then them and showed up in my shots. There was also a blue heron checking us out though it didnt make the pictures. Last time it was Canadian geese that wouldn't get out of the way :)

Here's a general idea of what the lake looks like. It's actually a sunset picture, but well it was pretty so I'll include it ;-)

You probably let the water and fish get too hot. I always put frozen
cold packs underneath the collection bags in the styrofoam containers
when I place the fish and water in there. This usually prevents that
problem ... Oh yes, do not crowd the fish AND I also use an anti fungal
medication in the water to prevent fungus arising from abrasions that
may have happened during collecting. Works for me! The ice packs keep
the water cold and the fish happy.

Stay well and happy collecting.
