Re: Affiliates (was Re: [Killietalk] RE: Importations)

Again I seem to be fanning a fire or throwing gasoline on a smoldering one.
Not my intent. I originally only pointed out that the AKA could take a more
active stance regarding importing fish from overseas, due to the more restrictive
requirements and costly fees (perhaps even absorbing the shipping cost as
well).
I realize that those unable to participate in affiliate chapters, would not
benefit directly from imported fish. Neither would they benefit directly with
intra affiliate box trades (which having no permits or fees involved; would
best be done by affiliates).
Life is inherently unfair...one either rails against it or does the best one
can with it.
I don't see this as an either/or situation. The affiliates hosts conventions
(from which the AKA receives the bulk of its' funding)...should those members
not in a chapter be dropped for not hosting a convention? Absurd. The AKA was
formed to help and further the needs of hobbyists; in groups or singularly.
Favoring one group over another is short sighted.
Those members not affiliated would benefit from the AKA subsidizing foreign
shipments. By a derivative of the economic "trickle down theory", they would
have those fish available at some point in the BNL F&E. The increased pool of
fish available would benefit everyone in the AKA, regardless of club affiliation
or non affiliation.
I had also mentioned that the AKA could have a group doing this. It would
lighten the burden from just one person, give a core group experience in doing
this seamlessly and have a back up when there is that "burn out" or family
crisis.
Again, my two cents worth...and factoring in inflation...STILL worth two
cents.
