Affiliates (was Re: [Killietalk] RE: Importations)

Please don't forget that there is no affiliate clubs in Alabama or

I may not be getting your point, Joe.

If you will please forgive me for being so blunt, "So what?" ;-)

If folks want an affiliate club they will form one. If they want a
killifish club not affiliated with AKA, they have done that, too.

I value my membership in one, even if making meetings is a sometime
thing. [In Feb., it is 9 hours of tough stormy mountain driving, each way! I don't even try.]

The days when AKA did everything possible to discourage "competition"
from affiliates is long gone, AFAIK. The extra-onerous requirements are
still there for forming one, but they are pretty much ignored, these
days, in practice. If you want a local club, be willing to do the work
to form and sustain one. If your population density is too low, do what
NWK did and form a "virtual club" with a lot of it in cyberspace.

I have a certain fear that attempts to force AKA to cater primarily to
the lonely, isolated killy breeder will result in a return to the days
when AKA was just another regional (if by mail) club, and in competition
with any other club. I honestly think we can do better than that. I
don't mean we need to ignore the boonies, just please be realistic.

I'm about as isolated as we ever get.

The closest thing, even resembling a city, to me is Reno, over 200 miles
to the north. There are two breeders in Bishop, and a couple of other
folks with strong interests in killifish. We could form a small club,
but the real benefits of strong regional clubs are too available to us,
through BAKA and SCKC, to make it worth the extra efforts involved. Most
of those benefits will never be provided to the vast majority of members
by AKA, so I suggest we not waste those scarce resources trying.

Guess I should turn my

Sermon Mode <OFF>

and put my

Flame Shield <UP> .

Now that I have my asbestos underwear on :-), I'd really like to hear
where others are coming from on this subject.

Slipping into madness is good for the sake of comparison.
